Description W. Watson and Sons Serial number 3506, manufactured between 1893 and 1896; microscope can be attached to a wooden base via bolt inserted into rear end of U-shaped black painted base; box appears to be aftermarket modification; arm and stage rotate over cylindrical brass support; spring attached to rear of microscope base hooks over fine adjustment knob at top of arm to suport added weight below; device has a single objective; square-shaped stage followed by series of additional components; 1 X stage clip is missing; inside of the box is a small piece of electrical wire, severed; blue felt on base of box along with box lining are both quite deteriorated; aside from the base no other accessories present.
Notes This device is signed "W. Watson & Sons 313 High Holborn, London" with the serial number 3506. The number indicates that this device was produced between 1893 and 1896. The microscope can be attached to a wooden base via a bolt inserted into the rear end of the base. The box appears to be an aftermarket modification built specifically for this device. The device has a single objective and features a mounted stage followed by a series of additional components. One of the stage clips is missing. Inside of the box is a small piece of electrical wire which has been severed. The blue felt on the base of the box along with the box lining are both quite deteriorated. The microscope bears substantial marks of wear and some corrosion. It has not been buffed. Aside from the base there are no other accessories present. A shelf from the inside of the box appears to be missing as well.
