Copy of a portion of the Hopwood Polio Scrapbook owned by the daughter of Cleveland physician Dr. Howard H. Hopwood, containing newspaper articles about the Sabin Oral Sundays (SOS) polio vaccination program. These articles, published between June 24 and July 21, 1962, describe the course and outcome of the second round of oral vaccinations given to residents of Cuyahoga County under the SOS program on June 24 and July 1 of that year. This vaccination consisted of three drops of a vaccine containing Type III poliomyelitis virus on a sugar cube. These articles also describe the lead-up to the third round of vaccinations, scheduled for July 22 and 29 and intended to immunize the population of Cuyahoga County against Type II of polio. |
