Notes |
This is a massive brass microscope marked "Murray London." The base has three legs. The arm and tube can be rotated back in the base. The movable stage is adjusted by knobs from side to side and forward and backward. The objective is marked "2 in" and there is an eyepiece mounted on the device. One side of the mirror is flat and quiite clear with cracks on the edges, while the other concave side has some substantial cracks and corrosion. The device has a wheel of diaphragms and no condensor. The finish is very bright and the edges of the device are quite sharp. The arm can be adjusted up and down. The left knob works well, but the right side is loose and the axle may be bent. The tag left by Dr. Benyol reads "James Kennedy Antiques Ltd. Brightleaf Square Durham, N.C." the other side reads "Sold Murray, London Monocular Microscope in original lacquer no case or accessories c1850 2650." |
